Browns vs. Vikings: Wednesday injury report has one possible concern

The Cleveland Browns will host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday in London, and there will be one major storyline that everyone will be talking about.

That is because Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Wednesday that rookie Dillon Gabriel will get the start at quarterback in place of the struggling Joe Flacco.

The Browns are hoping that Gabriel can provide some type of boost to an offense that has struggled through the first four weeks of the season.

The arrival of left tackle Cam Robinson this week in a trade with the Houston Texans could help the cause if he can suit up against the Vikings, but that leaves the question of who will be protecting Gabriel’s blind side, which, because he is a lefty, puts that responsibility on the right tackle.

Wednesday’s injury report for the Browns did not reveal much in that regard, as right tackle Jack Conklin was listed as limited as he continues to deal with an elbow injury that has kept him sidelined since the first offensive drive in Week 1.

Under the category of “potentially concerning,” defensive end Myles Garrett did not practice as he is dealing with an ankle injury that Stefanski classified as “day-to-day.”

In addition to Conklin and Garrett, the rest of the injury report for the Browns includes:

  • Guard Joel Bitonio, rest day
  • Defensive tackle Maliek Collins, rest day
  • Safety Grant Delpit, limited with a back injury
  • Defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr., limited with a knee injury
  • Offensive tackle Cornelius Lucas, rest day
  • Tight end David Njoku, limited with a knee injury

For the Vikings, the injury report includes the following players, all listed as “did not practice”

  • Offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw – rest
  • Offensive guard Donovan Jackson – wrist
  • Center Michael Jurgens – hamstring
  • Center Ryan Kelly – concussion
  • Quarterback J.J. McCarthy – ankle
  • Offensive tackle Brian O’Neill – knee
  • Linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel – neck
  • Tight end Ben Yurosek – knee

The Browns are leaving town tonight to fly to London, where they will hold a walkthrough on Thursday at 5 p.m. Cleveland time.
