The Browns welcome the San Francisco 49ers to Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, and one of Cleveland’s youngest players could be a deciding factor in the outcome of the game this weekend.
It’s no secret that Christian McCaffrey is one of the top ball-carriers in the league due to his playmaking ability both as a runner and receiver out of the backfield. McCaffrey’s ability to create multiple explosive plays per game is what propels San Francisco down the field numerous times each week. He’s been one of the main catalysts of Kyle Shanahan’s offense, and if Cleveland wants to have any chance at getting a “W” this weekend, it’s imperative to shut him down.
This is where Browns rookie defender Carson Schwesinger comes in. The 22-year-old linebacker has been one of DC Jim Schwartz’s most effective and productive players in 2025, both as a run stopper and in pass coverage.
His athleticism and processing skills consistently allow him to be in the right place at the right time, and when facing a player like Christian McCaffrey, that’s paramount.
Depending on the 49ers’ offensive formations and down/distance situations, there’s a good chance that Cleveland will have Schwesinger locked onto McCaffrey at all times on Sunday. If the Browns can limit San Francisco’s top offensive playmaker this weekend, then stealing a victory against an 8-win 49ers team might not be totally out of reach.
