Plus, will Cedric Tillman live up to the offseason hype he’s receiving?
We are conducting polls as we go through our annual training camp previews by position for the Cleveland Browns. Here is a recap of the results from the wide receiver position:
I began Part 1 of our wide receiver preview by taking a poll on whether fans are truly a believer in the hype that is out there that Cedric Tillman will have a breakout season. 76% of fans think he will indeed have a breakout year.
We also asked who fans think the team’s No. 3 receiver will be this year. Jamari Thrash led the way with 44% of the vote, followed by Diontae Johnson with 37%. From there, David Bell (8%) and Michael Woods (6%) were distanced behind, as was the Other (6%) category. It’s not often that I’m caught off guard by the results of a poll, but this is one of them, in the sense that I had no foresight that Thrash would be the leading vote-getter.
In Part 2 of our wide receiver preview, we pointed to Diontae Johnson’s issues last year with not being valued by the Ravens, which led to his release. Since Cleveland’s top two receiver slots are already filled, Johnson knows he’s coming here to try to kickstart his career again by securing the No. 3 receiver role. However, if the team prefers one of their younger options, does Johnson stick around on the back end of the depth chart? No — 81% of fans think he’ll be gone if he’s not the No. 3 receiver.
In our other Part 2 poll, we asked if DeAndre Carter will be the Browns’ primary return man this year, and 74% of fans think he will be.
Lastly, in Part 3 of our wide receiver preview, we asked which young receiver fans are pulling for. This one was fairly obvious, with 74% of fans pulling for the local kid, Luke Floriea. Among the other receivers, Kiseasn Johnson (12%) has some fans, followed by Cade McDonald (8%).
