A non-contact injury, Martin Emerson went down during Browns training camp practice Tuesday
The Cleveland Browns have not had a great start to training camp for a variety of reasons, including LB Jordan Hicks retiring, QB Kenny Pickett hurting his hamstring, and a lot of passes hitting the ground amongst the quarterback competition. The Browns defense was expected to carry the team, but the linebacker corps has injuries and Hicks’ departure is impacting them greatly.
A new contender has emerged at defensive end across from Myles Garrett, while the secondary is full of talent but needs a bounce-back season from Martin Emerson Jr. and Greg Newsome II.
Unfortunately, Tuesday’s practice saw Emerson go down with what looked like a non-contact injury, causing practice to stop quickly:
Emerson was seen being helped onto the cart:
Reports from the field noted that the cornerback was holding his lower left and was in noticeable pain. Teammates were “distraught,” according to Scott Petrak.
If Emerson’s injury is serious, Cleveland’s defense would need to rely on a few young players behind Denzel Ward and Newsome.
