Browns should trade Myles Garrett? A counterpoint on that idea

There haven’t been Myles Garrett rumors per se but the rumblings in the media and fans are starting to swirl

It’s 2024 and for whatever the reason may be, there is a small group of people that believe that the Cleveland Browns should trade defensive end Myles Garrett. Let me reiterate. It’s a small group of people who believe that the Cleveland Browns should trade one of the best edge rushers in the prime of their career.

We wrote about that here on our site as a possibility given Garrett’s amazing talents but the team’s inability to field a winning team. Before the NFL trade deadline, there was talk that teams had at least made calls about the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

One former GM had a wild idea for a potential Garrett deal.

Still, a small group of people think it could/should happen:

Let me be clear about what I am about to say. If the Browns were to trade Garrett, not only would it be an asinine decision but it would be a decision that would be met with intense scrutiny.

The former GM’s wild idea a few months ago well received criticism.

Cleveland has no incentive to trade Garrett. The Browns don’t have a ton of issues to address (as much as people don’t want to admit) that a Garrett trade would change. The issues are prevalent, don’t get the wrong idea, but it’s not bad to the point where they need to trade the face of the franchise.

Tier 1 edge rushers don’t grow on trees. They don’t. You can’t replace someone of Garrett’s caliber, no matter what people say. Keeping Garrett and strengthening the defense should be one of the priorities going into the offseason.

As far as the quarterback situation, that’s another topic for another day. The bottom line is Cleveland shouldn’t trade Myles Garrett nor should the idea be entertained.
