Browns Shedeur Sanders reps limited due to injury vs Eagles

Down goes QB Shedeur Sanders, joining Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel among the Cleveland Browns quarterback competition participants with injuries. Pickett and Gabriel each went down with hamstring injuries that have limited them for a number of weeks and opening the door for Sanders to excel against the Carolina Panthers in Week 1.

With loads of questions about how the Browns would distribute reps during joint practices against the Philadelphia Eagles, many wondered why Sanders was not in the rotation on Wednesday morning. Joe Flacco and Gabriel getting the first two chances made sense, but seeing Tyler Huntley on the field instead of Sanders raised a lot of red flags until news broke that the young fifth round pick was injured before team drills began:

Prior to practice, HC Kevin Stefanski noted that Sanders was likely to start the preseason matchup against the Eagles, but that is very much in question with this injury. Oblique issues tend to linger, especially at positions where twisting the body is a big part of the job, as a quarterback does on every throw.

We will keep you up to date on Sanders’ injury as more information becomes available.
