Examining who the Browns initial roster may consist of as OTAs are starting across the league
The Cleveland Browns will take the practice field in front of the media later today, and it will be the first chance to see most of the roster together. In the next few weeks, OTAs will be technically voluntary, but players competing for their role or being shot at making the 53-man roster will certainly be in attendance.
It's still early, but projecting which fifty-three players will make up the Week 1 roster is always a fun exercise. Yesterday, Matt Wilson took a look at some under-the-radar players who may have an impact this season.
With the roster now full, we also graded the position groups and found that there is still some talent on this Browns team overall. If I had a crystal ball along with a chance to play Andrew Berry today and make the choices, this is what I would do:
Shedeur Sanders
Kenny Pickett
Dillon Gabriel
The Browns see enough from the two rookies and attempt to give Joe Flacco a chance to catch on elsewhere, possibly in a trade.
Quinshon Judkins
Jerome Ford
Dylan Sampson
Jerry Jeudy
Cedric Tillman
David Bell
Jamari Thrash
Diontae Johnson
DeAndre Carter
Johnson is a complete wildcard here, but he reverts to a familiar version of himself.
David Njoku
Harold Fannin Jr.
Added at cutdown
I don’t feel the third tight end is currently on the roster. Whiteheart is in the mix, but I expect him to start on the practice squad.
Dawand Jones
Jack Conklin
Joel Bitonio
Wyatt Teller
Ethan Pocic
Teven Jenkins
Zak Zinter
Luke Wypler
Cornelius Lucas
If Javion Cohen takes a step forward, then they may feel the need to carry ten.
Myles Garrett
Isaiah McGuire
Alex Wright
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka
Cameron Thomas
This is a very crowded room in its current construction. The team likes what they will see from Thomas and will trade away Ogbo Okoronkwo before final cutdowns.
Maliek Collins
Mason Graham
Mike Hall Jr.
Jowon Briggs
Shelby Harris
Jordan Hicks
Carson Schwesinger
Jerome Baker
Devin Bush
Mahamoud Diabate
Nathaniel Watson
The decision to keep a sixth LB was a tough one over opting for another body on the defensive line, but special teams needs take priority.
Denzel Ward
Martin Emerson Jr.
Greg Newsome
Cameron Mitchell
Myles Harden
Tony Brown II
LaMareon James
The corner room may feel heavy, but I think someone from this group ends up playing at safety, too. Mitchell and Harden are prime candidates.
Grant Delpit
Ronnie Hickman
Rayshawn Jenkins
K Dustin Hopkins
P Corey Bojorquez
LS Rex Sunahara
As always, nothing will pan out this perfectly, and decisions will need to be made based on injuries that occur along the way. This does...
