Browns roster: Top 10 NFL free agents to fill open spot after NFL trade deadline

While the New York Jets were busy imploding their roster by dealing away their two young, cornerstone defensive pieces, the Cleveland Browns mostly sat on their hands with just one move, trading away DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka in an exchange of draft picks. The Browns now have 18 NFL draft selections in the next two NFL drafts and a half of a season to figure out what is wrong with the offense, starting with a new play caller.

The trade of Tryon-Shoyinka and the release of S Damontae Kazee leave Cleveland’s 53-man roster with two open spots. One will be filled, likely, by WR Cedric Tillman’s return from injured reserve. The Browns could fill the other open roster spot from their practice squad or take a swing in NFL free agency.

As listed by Sharp Football, here are the Top 10 free agents that could have some interest to Cleveland GM Andrew Berry:

• WR KJ Osborn
• OT La’El Collins (Jedrick Wills is still a free agent, but is either taking the year off or possibly retiring)
• OT Andre Dillard
• OL Shaq Mason
• DE DeMarcus Walker – Tryon-Shoyinka’s spot being filled by an edge player could make sense
• DT Christian Wilkins – An interesting name, as his injury and rumors with the Las Vegas Raiders are shrouded in mystery, but the Browns were interested when he hit free agency two years ago
• LB Josey Jewell – With Carson Schwesinger injured, the linebacker room might need reinforcement
• CB Asante Samuel Jr. – Now cleared from his back surgery
• S Justin Simmons – With Kazee released, maybe Cleveland is looking for a veteran free safety to start in place of Ronnie Hickman
