The Cleveland Browns returned to the practice field in Berea on Monday morning on their way to joint practices and a preseason matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles later this week. The story coming out of Week 1 of preseason was obviously QB Shedeur Sanders, but the Browns are also excited about the play of rookies DT Mason Graham and LB Carson Schwesinger, among others.

One player that stood out was WR Luke Floriea, who has been having a very good training camp and made a really good one-handed catch on a scramble drill throw from Sanders. Early on Monday, HC Kevin Stefanski noted an update was coming on Floriea’s injured hamstring, which raised alarms. Shortly after that came word from the team that Floriea was waived along with four other player moves:

The Cleveland Browns have signed CB Christian Holmes and CB Darius Rush. In addition, the team has waived WR Luke Floriea (injury designation) and T Roy Mbaeteka. The club has also designated T Kilian Zierer as the team’s international player.

Zierer was signed to Cleveland’s roster last week and takes over the IPPP designation from Mbaeteka.

Holmes was a seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft and played 30 games in two seasons for the Washington Commanders, but did not play last season. Rush was a fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 but has played in just five games, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers, since entering the NFL.

Floriea will likely either be placed on Injured Reserve or outright released if no one claims him, while Mbaeteka will enter free agency with another chance to take a IPPP roster spot.
