Cleveland Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins has gotten a massive break in his case following his arrest.
The second-round pick was picked up by police in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in July on charges of touch strike/battery/domestic violence. However, prosecutors have decided not to charge him formally.
According to Andy Slater of FOX Sports, prosecutors opted not to proceed with the matter due to several factors, including the timing of the report, the lack of video evidence, and the absence of independent witnesses.
Slater noted that there were videos that came out during the timeframe that did not show the alleged victim bearing any injuries.
“The decision was based on several factors including late reporting of the alleged incident to police, no surveillance video, and no independent witnesses,” he reported, adding that “The State Attorney says there were videos seen during the same timeframe that didn’t show the victim with injuries.”
While the running back is off the hook with the authorities, the Browns and the NFL are conducting their own investigations, which could still be ongoing, according to Cleveland.com’s Marya Kay Cabot.
Judkins has yet to sign his rookie contract with the team and hasn’t practiced with them since minicamp. So, despite the good news on the legal side of things, his future is still unclear, and there are suggestions that he could be at risk of missing out altogether.
Should the league or team uncover anything not considered by the authorities, things could be over before even getting started. Still, he’ll count today’s development as a win.
