Browns QBs: Team’s social media post ends up highlighting huge hand size difference

Kenny Pickett’s hand size has been a conversation since the NFL draft process

The Cleveland Browns have five quarterbacks on their 90-man roster, with rookie minicamp welcoming in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. In the end, who wins the starting QB competition, the first in a long time in Berea, won’t depend on what Tom Brady is saying, who is popular or not popular on social media, or even hand size.

Kenny Pickett’s hand size has been a part of the conversation around the quarterback since he entered the league. At 8.5 inches coming out of college, Pickett’s hands were smaller than any quarterback in the league at that time. Since he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, Browns fans (including our great DBN community) have spent a lot of time making jokes about his small hands.

When the team’s social media posted pictures from Berea with Joe Flacco and Pickett doing “football things,” an astute observer zoomed in to show just how different the two quarterbacks’ hands are:

Fumbles are one of the only stats often directly correlated to hand size. Pickett has seven in 30 games (0.23 per game) while Flacco has 103 in 196 games (0.52 per game).

While less measurable, many believe that hand size helps a quarterback control the football’s flight pattern and throw with more force. In the end, a good quarterback is a good quarterback but hand size continues to be a piece of information that many are drawn to while evaluating players...

... and making jokes.
