The combination of the most important position in football, a unique quarterback room, celebrity status, and the downtrodden franchise that is the Cleveland Browns has all come together with the Shedeur Sanders experience. Starting with Week 14, Sanders is entering a vital stretch of games for his future with the Browns. It has only been two starts so far for Sanders, but Cleveland fans are expecting him to outplay first overall pick Cam Ward this week.

With Deshaun Watson now all but officially sticking around for another season, Sanders must perform well, or some fans might start calling for the veteran to play as early as this year.

So far, the raw stats are nothing to get too excited about:

  • 31/61, 51% completion, 405 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 6 sacks, 5 rushes for 21 yards
  • 6.64 yards per attempt (36th in the NFL)
  • 8.69 Average depth of target, ADoT (22nd in the NFL)

The data points are similar or worse:

  • 69.4 rating
  • 7.0 QBR
  • 38.9 overall and 40.3 passing grades on PFF
  • EPA per play of -0.31, pass EPA -20.98

This week, against the Tennessee Titans, is set up for Sanders to have his best game. His first start came against the aggressive and creative Baltimore Ravens defense. His second game came in very windy and unpredictable weather conditions.

Sunday’s matchup comes against a Titans defense ranked 28th in DVOA’s metric and 26th against the pass, with the wind expected to top out at just 12 MPH compared to sustained winds at 27 MPH last week and gusts between 35 and 45 as well.

With back-to-back weeks of games at home, no Thanksgiving holiday, and going into his third start, Sanders is in his best position to succeed and create even more interesting conversations about the future in Cleveland.

Now, he just has to do it.

Do you think Sanders has his best week as a starter Sunday in Week 14 or do you think there is just too much bad around the team to overcome?
