Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, Kirk Cousins have a new name added to Browns rumors
“As the Cleveland Browns turns” feels like an appropriate title for the soap opera that has been the team for most years since The Return in 1999. With two playoff appearances in the last five years, the Browns have been better, overall, than at any stretch since the team was stolen away from the city.
It hasn’t been good enough to even sniff the Super Bowl.
As always, with 96 of them rostered in the team’s history, quarterback continues to be the focus of the next steps for the team. Cam Ward seems destined to be drafted first overall, Shedeur Sanders is clearly an option for the Browns while veteran Kirk Cousins has seemed to make a lot of sense as well.
I guess we can add Daniel Jones’ name to that mix as well:
Noting that the NFL draft is likely to bring a drafted quarterback is no surprise but worth mentioning that it seems like a foregone conclusion.
Calling Jones a first-round bust just didn’t seem right given that he received a second contract from the New York Giants. In six seasons with the Giants, Jones led the team to just one winning record (9-6-1) in 2022 and won just three games as a starter the following two seasons before being released during the season last year.
The idea that Jones could turn a few weeks on the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings (before being added to the roster for the playoffs) into a chance to start next year seems wild but, given Cleveland’s history at the position, anything is possible.
In general, taking a chance on an athletic first-round quarterback is a fine way to go but how disappointed (scale of 1 (whatever, it's just a flyer) to 10 (never watching again, for real) would you be if the Browns signed Jones this offseason?
