The Browns will be without their star linebacker in 2025.
The Cleveland Browns provided an update on one of the team’s biggest star players after making additional signings earlier in the day. Mystery has surrounded Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah ever since the linebacker was injured in a collision with Derrick Henry in Baltimore in Week 8 last season.
It was officially ruled a neck injury and caused immediate concern as he was boarded and carted off the field and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Thankfully, Owusu-Koramoah has returned to normal activities while his status on the football field has been up in the air.
The team announced that he would be placed on the PUP reserve list while he continues to further his recovery from the injury. Being placed on the PUP before camp begins will mean that he will be ineligible to play during the 2025 season.
The update is, of course, a disappointment, but it was always a likely outcome as JOK was seeking opinions of medical experts throughout the offseason. The biggest tell may have been when the Browns selected Carson Schwesinger with the 33rd overall pick in the draft.
The good news is that it also appears that Cleveland and Owusu-Koramoah haven’t ruled out a return to football entirely. The Browns also provided a statement from JOK about the PUP designation.
While the news isn’t much of a surprise, how does this impact your expectations for the defense in 2025? Is Schwesinger ready to step in right away to fill the void? Let us know in the comments below.
