Cousins revealed one of the reasons for his poor performance at the end of 2024

The Cleveland Browns’ biggest question mark heading into the 2025 offseason is undoubtedly at quarterback, and one of their potential targets has divulged some important information as to why he didn’t have the best ending to the 2024 season.

Kirk Cousins signed a four-year, $180 Million deal with the Atlanta Falcons prior to the 2024 season in hopes of being able to finally elevate the franchise to where it needed to be after “missing” on Desmond Ridder in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Though he at least led the team to a .500 record as the starter, there were stretches of bad play that was pretty unusual for Cousins throughout the year specifically towards the end of the season.

Cousins revealed on an edition of Good Morning Football that he had injured his throwing shoulder and elbow in Week 10’s game against the New Orleans Saints back in November.

When you go back and watch the film or if you noticed it in real time, it makes quite a bit of sense. A few of his bad interceptions and turnover-worthy throws were very non-Kirk-Cousins-like.

Though he’s never had a “huge” arm, some of the interceptions were strangly underthrown balls in general or short-intermediate throws that just simply didn’t have the zip that they usually do at that distance.

Essentially, some of the passes that got picked off weren’t because he didn’t see a defender and just made a bad decision. It was more of a velocity problem in which he couldn't get the ball to where it needed to go fast enough. It was never an accuracy problem.

He unnecessarily floated some balls around that allowed defenders time to get there more often than usual.

In terms of his overall outlook going forward as a potential option for Cleveland it could be seen as a sigh of relief. If it was simply the fact of trying to temporarily play through an injury instead of a talent dropff, then he’s definitely a quarterback that could be an exciting acquisition for the Browns in 2025.

He was looking good and had a record of 6-3 as the starter heading into Week 10, when he supposedly suffered the arm injury.
