Dawgs By Nature
It is Week 10, and the Cleveland Browns are coming off of their bye and the trade deadline, looking forward to getting on track against the New York Jets. Because of the bye, there was no movement in the Browns’ ranking this week (down 0.1 spots from last week), but the national consensus remains firm: if Dillon Gabriel doesn’t show anything impressive against the Jets, it’s got to be time to make the switch to Shedeur Sanders.
Here is a summary of how the Cleveland Browns are viewed across mainstream media outlets in NFL Power Rankings heading into Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season.
How much longer can they go with Dillon Gabriel? If he doesn’t get it going against the Jets this week, it will be time for a change.
Most important game remaining: Week 10 at the Jets
The Browns have multiple games remaining against teams that will be vying for the No. 1 pick, and the one-win Jets appear to be among those who will be in the quarterback market this offseason. The FPI currently gives the Browns an 19.1% chance — the third-best odds in the NFL — of getting the top pick in the 2026 draft, while the Jets sit at fourth with a 13.7% chance. A victory could come at the cost of potentially missing out on an elite QB prospect months from now.
They crawled into the bye with a humbling loss at New England, and questions at quarterback have reemerged. Dillon Gabriel has flatlined, and there will be more Shedeur Sanders talk in the coming days and weeks, even if neither he nor Gabriel are a long-term answer. Still, it might behoove the Browns to throw Sanders out there, both as a way of gauging his talent and also potentially showcasing it for an offseason trade. Cleveland’s defense has been mostly terrific and could yield a few more wins, but questions at QB must be answered down the stretch prior to an offseason in which the club will have two first-round picks to help them determine the next course at the position.
The Browns had a bye week to see whether they need to see more of Dillon Gabriel and what more they can do to accelerated their youth movement. Now watch to see what veteran pieces (not Myles Garrett) they move at the trade deadline.
Kevin Stefanski gave up play-calling duties. Once a head coach known for his play-calling does that, the next question becomes what value he has to the franchise. Stefanski is far from Cleveland’s biggest problem, but that might not be a good sign.
