The young coach was recently promoted by the Browns last week to turn around the league’s worst unit

It’s been a week since the Cleveland Browns hired tight end coach Tommy Rees from within to serve as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Rees was one of five candidates that Cleveland interviewed for the job and the team moved quickly to hire him soon after Mike Vrabel agreed to terms with New England to become their new head coach.

The 32-year-old is now tasked with revamping the worst offense in the NFL last season. He is scheduled to be introduced on Thursday and will answer questions from the media in attendance.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski may also be part of the presser to discuss his decision and to introduce Rees. While we don’t expect to be given much in terms of definitive answers, there may be clues as to what direction the offense is headed.

Better yet, would be any breadcrumbs dropped about who they may be looking for to fill the quarterback position in 2025? There will be direct questions about specific players but focusing on player types may provide more fruit.

I do expect at least a few questions about Jalen Milroe, who Rees coached previously at Alabama. The media will also ask about veteran and other draft options but I’d expect he and Stefanski to be vague.

The question of who’s calling the plays will likely be one of the first asked, and I could probably tell you who’s asking it. Expect the answer to be some variation of, “We are still working through all of that,” and I’d be surprised if Stefanski puts that responsibility on his plate in the end.

I’m hopeful that there are insightful questions that allow Rees to expound upon his vision for a successful offense next year rather than those looking to dig up answers as to why last year went so wrong. Trying to parse out whether or not the vision is a marriage of Stefanski’s offense with some RPO concepts that Rees was successful within the college game would be helpful.
