Browns Kevin Stefanski makes big change to offense during bye week

The Cleveland Browns are going to look different coming out of their bye week and heading into Week 10 versus the New York Jets, but we don’t know in how many ways. WR Cedric Tillman is likely to return from injured reserve this week, but the 2026 NFL trade deadline could lead to other changes on the Browns roster.

A lot of the bye week conversation was about QB Shedeur Sanders taking over for QB Dillon Gabriel, something the backup quarterback seemed to be alluding to in a video. Prior to the bye week, HC Kevin Stefanski stated that was not the plan and reiterated he was sticking with Gabriel at the start of Week 10’s practices:

Stefanski did, however, note a big change to the offense with OC Tommy Rees taking over playcalling duties this week:

Stefanski made it clear that they believe the team can be better and has to do whatever it takes to make that happen:

This is the second year in a row that Stefanski has handed over playcaller duties. Last year, Ken Dorsey got the job but did not do enough to stick around for a second season. We will see if Rees, a former star quarterback in college, can get the job done and if the move helps Stefanski lead the team as a whole.

What do you think about Stefanski’s decision to give the playcalling duties to Rees? Do you think it is a sign of his seat getting warmer or just a decision he felt was best for the team?
