Browns Kevin Stefanski gives up playcalling, again: Something or nothing?
Dawgs By Nature Dawgs By Nature

To the surprise of many people, there was a coaching change with the Cleveland Browns this week. No, not the coaching change some thought or want to happen. With the Browns offense looking inept for virtually the entire season, head coach Kevin Stefanski decided to give up playcalling to OC Tommy Rees.

The reaction? More of a mixed bag. Is it a big deal? Is it a sign Stefanski knows his job is on the line? Is it a sign that the head coach knows he’s safe? It’s a lot of questions that many want answers to. With the way this coaching staff and front office work, we won’t get answers, which leaves people to speculate:

When asked about the explanation for giving up play-calling duties, Stefanski gave this answer.

Basically, Stefanski has trust in Rees and he will do what’s necessary to help him. Unlike last season, when Stefanski turned over play-calling to Ken Dorsey, it felt different. Cleveland’s offense was a mess last season because of many reasons, mainly due to the personnel not matching the scheme that was being run to cater to quarterback Deshaun Watson.

When Dorsey took over as the play caller, the offense was still atrocious, which led to Stefanski firing Dorsey and promoting Tommy Rees instead of hiring someone else who was available.

Some think the offense will look better with someone else calling the plays, but that may not be the case. The personnel being limited in terms of talent makes things harder for anyone under center. One possible guess, on why Stefanski gave up playcalling was to have a CEO role and oversee the team in terms of an operational standpoint.

Could the change benefit the offense? We shall see this Sunday.
