The Cleveland Browns are officially in on trying to hire John Harbaugh to be their next head coach and replace Kevin Stefanski. Once Harbaugh became available, the Browns would have been failing if they had not done at least their due diligence to see if the former Baltimore Ravens head coach was interested in their job. Oftentimes, behind-the-scenes conversations are had before any official or unofficial request becomes public.

There are a few reasons that Harbaugh might want to come back to his home area to coach Cleveland, but the veteran delayed any immediate interviews for a chance to make a plan. Harbaugh reportedly has high demands for his next employer, but none of those should dissuade the Browns.

Now, reportedly, we have proof that Cleveland is interested in Harbaugh and at least has some belief that the Super Bowl-winning coach would be willing to sit down and talk to them:

That report is notable as the Browns would not have made it known that they reached out, nor would Harbaugh benefit from leaking that information, unless they believed they had a shot with the top candidate in this cycle. It also means Cleveland’s ownership and decision makers are not put off by any of the demands/requirements made from the coach’s side.
