New Cleveland Browns pass rusher Jared Verse acknowledged that he was initially upset after learning he had been traded by the Los Angeles Rams as part of the blockbuster deal that brought Myles Garrett to Los Angeles.
Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Verse reflected on his reaction to the trade. A video of his comments was shared by Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot on social media.
“It caught me by surprise. I loved LA. I loved the coaches, the organization, my teammates, you know, everybody a part of it, the staff, the fans, I loved the whole vibe of LA… Los Angeles Rams. It was upsetting. I was upset for a good little bit of time, but you’re an athlete and you understand the nature of the business.”
Verse was included in the package that sent Garrett from Cleveland to Los Angeles in one of the NFL’s most significant offseason moves. The Rams also sent a 2027 first-round pick and additional draft compensation to acquire the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Despite his initial disappointment, Verse emphasized that he quickly embraced his new opportunity with the Browns.
“Everybody does what they think is best for their business and that’s the situation I’m in. I’m happy to be a part of the Browns. I’m happy they believed in me and were able to make that trade and bring me here and be with my teammates, be with everyone here. I truly believe in everybody in the locker room but it was upsetting at first.”
The trade marked a major shift for both franchises. Los Angeles is loading up for a championship push after reaching the NFC Championship Game last season before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Earlier this offseason, the Rams also acquired cornerback Trent McDuffie from the Kansas City Chiefs.
For Cleveland, acquiring Verse provides a young cornerstone defender as the organization begins a new chapter without Garrett. While the transition was difficult initially, Verse’s comments suggested he has already turned his attention toward helping the Browns move forward in 2026.
