Browns head coaching search: Familiar face getting 2nd interview with Cleveland

It was just announced that current Browns DC Jim Schwartz is receiving a second formal interview for Cleveland’s vacant head coaching position on Monday.

It’s obvious and no longer a secret that Andrew Berry and Co. are trying to do everything they can to keep Schwartz in Cleveland, as he’s beloved by the players and has been incredibly important to the defensive success of the team.

He isn’t some random coordinator without head coaching experience either and he’s at least shown interest in staying with the team without Kevin Stefanski. This is huge because at one point, it was believed that once Stefanski left, everyone would want to leave.

Schwartz was the head coach of the Lions from from 2009-2013, where he led Detroit to the playoffs in 2011 with a 10-6 record and finished 2nd in the division. Though he didn’t have much success outside of that year, it shouldn’t entirely be put on him because those Lions teams were incredibly bad. Much worse than where the Browns are currently.

Let’s see how things play out with Schwartz because outside of an “up-and-coming” coordinator without any real experience leading a team, he could be the best option for Cleveland right now.
