Browns Defender Sends Warning to Steelers: ‘We Plan to Ruin Their Hopes’

The Cleveland Browns still have something to play for in their Week 17 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Some may believe that the 3-12 Cleveland Browns have nothing to play for in Week 17, but one of their defenders revealed that’s far from the case.

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward thinks their matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers is the perfect opportunity to get the last laugh against their AFC North division rival.

“Man, it sounds like it’s an amazing opportunity that we have. We’re still playing for something, so we plan to ruin their hopes of getting into the playoffs,” Ward said. “So that’s what we’re gonna go in there and try to do to the best way we can.”

The Steelers and Browns second meeting of the season could prove to be mostly meaningless by kickoff on Sunday. If the Green Bay Packers defeat the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday, Pittsburgh will win the division.

However, if that doesn’t happen, Cleveland very much has the chance to play spoiler on Pittsburgh’s season. If the Ravens do win in Week 17 and the Browns upset the Steelers, it would come down to the Steelers and Ravens meeting in the regular season finale for the AFC North title.

That just got increasingly difficult, too, after the NFL upheld its decision to suspend wide receiver DK Metcalf for the final two games of the season.

Metcalf has been Pittsburgh’s undoubted No. 1 wide receiver this season with a team-leading 850 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 59 catches.

The last time the Steelers and Browns faced off in Week 6, Metcalf had four catches for 95 yards and a touchdown.

Metcalf’s absence will surely be felt by the Steelers come Sunday, and the Browns are looking to take full advantage with the opportunity to have bragging rights following what has been a disappointing season for them.
