The Cleveland Browns do not what to see defensive end Myles Garrett ever make it back to the AFC North.
The Cleveland Browns moved on from reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett this week, trading him to the Los Angeles Rams. However, they did everything they could to ensure he does not find himself back in the AFC North.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns made the 2029 third-round pick that they sent to the Rams conditional. It will become a first-round pick if Los Angeles were to trade Garrett back into the AFC North.
Not that the Rams are likely looking to move on from Garrett anytime soon, but if in a couple of years from now, they’d like to dump his contract on someone else, that all but takes the Steelers out of the running.
Pittsburgh already has its fair share of edge rushers that its paying, including T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Nick Herbig, but watching Garrett cross enemy lines would have been quite the sight for Steelers fan.
It’s easy to argue that Garrett is the best player in the NFL, especially coming off a season in which he set the single season sack record with 23 to go along with 60 tackles, three forced fumbles and one pass defensed.
However, it’s safe to assume the Steelers are just happy to see Garrett out of the division and the AFC as a whole.
They will have to face Browns new edge rusher Jared Verse, though. He has recorded 12 sacks and five forced fumbles in his first two seasons in the NFL.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Garrett has racked up 412 tackles, 125.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and 18 passes defensed in his professional career.
