Dawgs By Nature
In an alternate universe, the Cleveland Browns could have traded up and selected Cam Ward in the 2025 NFL draft. Selecting a quarterback with the first pick, assuming a trade up, in the draft rather than selecting two quarterbacks in the third and fifth rounds would be a major philosophical shift for the organization. A selection like this would’ve shown their commitment to Ward as the future of the franchise, and the offense would likely’ve been tailored to his strengths.
It seemed like the Browns were very interested in Ward, but the Tennessee Titans were dead set on selecting him.
Selecting a quarterback that early would reveal the direction the franchise was planning to take. Between selecting quarterbacks in the third and fifth rounds and bringing in multiple veterans, the Cleveland organization has left many people unsure of its true direction this season.
Ward’s arm strength would’ve really played into The Browns’ offense, whereas some of this year’s Cleveland quarterbacks did not have great arm strength like Dillon Gabriel. His ability to make off-script plays would’ve brought an interesting aspect to the offense. This attribute may have helped to hide some of the offensive line struggles.
Let me know what you think in the comments – What would the Browns look like this season if they drafted Cam Ward?
