Broncos vs. Chiefs second quarter recap

Broncos vs. Chiefs second quarter recap
Mile High Report Mile High Report

The Denver Broncos began the second quarter with a quick three-and-out after getting behind the sticks early. An early whistle on a swing pass to Jaleel McLaughlin looked like it would have negated a very long gain. The officials were disappointing early in this game.

A booming punt by Jeremy Crawshaw pinned the Kansas City Chiefs deep at their own 11-yard line, but the Chiefs would dink and dunk their way out of that hole and across midfield with a clock-eating drive of their own. They would own the ball for almost the entire quarter during a super long 16-play, 77 yard drive. However, the Broncos red zone defense is the best in the NFL for reason and the best the Chiefs could do was tie it up on that drive.

Broncos 6, Chiefs 6.

Bo Nix opened up Denver’s next drive with a 15-yard throw to Pat Bryant for a good first play. It went nowhere from there. A third and eight pass to Troy Franklin was on target, but went through his hands and bounced off his chest to bring out the punt unit. That would be Franklin’s fourth drop in two weeks.

The Chiefs had a chance to double-dip, but Que Robinson would power through for a sack with D.J. Jones to bring out the punting team to give the Broncos offense two minutes and two timeouts to put points on the board before halftime.

Bo Nix opened with an eight yard scramble, but then was nearly intercepted on a quick pass outside to Bryant. On third and three, Nix would run up the middle and was stuffed just short of the first down marker. Instead of going for it, they would punt it away and play for halftime.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs would get it back and try to get some points before half time, but could not connect on multiple deep throws.
