It’s already Week 16. Where did the season go? Where did 2024 go?
The final Thursday Night Football matchup before Christmas gives fans a matchup of two teams that would slot into the final two playoff spots in the AFC if the season ended today. However, the season does not end today, and the winner of the AFC West showdown between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers will be one step closer to clinching a playoff berth.
For the Broncos, it’s simple, and all they need to do is defeat the Chargers to lock up a trip to the postseason. For the Chargers, a win all but assures them a playoff appearance this year, but they will still need losses from the Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts to fully secure a playoff appearance.
In spite of being a game back of Denver in the division, Los Angeles enters the game as 2.5 point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook, in a game that is not expected to feature a lot of offense, as the over/under sits at just 41.5.
A low scoring affair should surprise no one, as these two teams enter the game tied for first place in the NFL in points against, each allowing just 17.6 points per game through the first 15 weeks. With two very good defenses facing off against each other, the winner is likely to be determined by which team has a better quarterback, and in this case that is the Chargers, who should win outright while covering the spread. However, both teams will try to use the ground game to control the clock, meaning fans should bet the under.
