According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have signed defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour and have waived rookie undrafted free agent linebacker J.B. Brown. Rookie defensive linemen Kristian Williams did not practice on Tuesday, and the Broncos decided to add some depth to their defensive line for the preseason finale vs. the Saints.
Michael Dwumfour is a 27-year-old former undrafted free agent who has bounced around the league a bit during his short career. During his short career, he has had stints with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, the Texans again, the Chicago Bears, the Browns again, and recently with the 49ers before being waived again. Now, he will join the Broncos in what likely will be another short stint with the team.
He has yet to stick with one team, but continues to get opportunities around the league and will have a chance to impress the Broncos coaches during their preseason finale vs. the Saints on Saturday.
The Broncos worked out a handful of defensive linemen on Tuesday and decided to go with Dwumfour due to undrafted rookie Kristian Williams apparently dealing with an injury. It is highly unlikely that Dwumfour has a future with the team outside of the preseason finale, but if he can impress them during this short stint, maybe he could push for a spot on the practice squad. Realistically, that is probably unlikely, but you can never say never in the NFL.
We’ll see if Dwumfour can impress during the game on Saturday vs. the Saints. We’ll likely see the Broncos starters and key backups briefly in this game before letting the backups/third string finish out the preseason on hopefully a high note.
