Out of the two free agent offensive linemen that the Broncos went all-out for in 2023, Mike McGlinchey has been paying off the best for the team. He’s consistently one of the better run blockers on the line and keeps his quarterbacks clean in pass protection. He’s consistently above the league average at his position and is well within the top 10 best right tackles in the league.
One of the things I love about McGlinchey the most though has been his leadership and locker room presence. He’s a positive player who props up his teammates any time possible, always is talking up his quarterback (no matter who it is), and isn’t afraid to get chippy out on the field when needed. He’s a guy most teams would be lucky to have on their line.
Height: 6-8
Weight: 315 pounds
Age: 30 years old
Experience: 8th NFL season
2024 stats: Appeared in 13 games with 13 starts, playing 99% of offensive snaps in games he was healthy
Not a whole lot changes this year when it comes to the roll McGlinchey will play on this team, as I’m sure you could have wagered. He’ll be working in tandem with the best guard in the game and the right side of this offensive line will once again be the strong point of their rushing attack. These two are straight-up people movers.
Look for the Broncos to continue to run both Duo and Inside Zone (yes, I believe there is a difference for you people apart of this niche argument). RJ Harvey will like what he sees with McGlinchey and the rest, as I’m sure he already does.
Here’s a good look at Inside Zone as well:
And one of McGlinchey’s best traits is his lack of penalties. Over his two seasons in Denver he has only given up 70 yards of accepted penalties. The bulk of these have been false starts, with 50 yards coming from those infractions. He only has two accepted offensive holding penalties as well over the last two seasons. One of those holds being an awful call.
And an offensive lineman that doesn’t get caught holding makes an impact.
The Broncos will once again boast a top-2 offensive line this year, and Mike McGlinchey is a big reason for that. He doesn’t miss much time, he doesn’t generate negative plays, and when he’s on, he’s on. And in the same way I’m hopeful for the entire offensive line, I think McGlinchey will take another step forward this year. This unit is meshing incredibly well and I’m excited to see them play.
