The Denver Broncos were riding high from their big win last week and came to London where they fell into the trap against the winless New York Jets. They needed their defense to secure nine sacks and hold Justin Fields to nine completions to move to 4-2 on the season.
It’s not always pretty in the NFL and this one is as ugly as it gets.
Things didn’t start out well for the Broncos in this game. On what would have been the first first down of the game, Troy Franklin fumbled it away to the Jets who then turned it into an early score.
The Broncos’ special teams unit would then give up a 72-yard kickoff return. However, despite both big plays the Jets offense gained a total of 9 yards on offense and two field goals. The Broncos answered with their own field goal drive to open up the scoring for them.
Then late in the first quarter, the Broncos went hurry up after converting a fourth down near midfield. They would convert another third down into the red zone, then Bo Nix would find a wide open Nate Adkins for the game’s first touchdown.

In the second quarter, the Broncos defense continued to dominate the Jets and held them scoreless throughout coming up with multiple sacks on Justin Fields.
However, the Broncos offense — despite piling up yards — struggled to clinch the deal in points. Backup lineman Matt Peart had two very bad holding calls negating third down conversions. One of which was a huge catch and run by Troy Franklin into the red zone that was wiped out and that drive ended in a punt.

Nothing went right for the Broncos in the third quarter. The Jets were dominating defensively and on special teams allowing their offense to 29 of the previous 33 plays at one point before a holding call on Quinn Meinerz resulted in a safety and the lead for New York.
Denver’s defense added their sixth sack of Justin Fields on the day to end the third quarter and force another punt, but the Broncos’ offense had been in hibernation since the first quarter.

After three three-and-outs and a safety, the Broncos offense finally woke up with about nine minutes left in the game. The big play came in the form of a wide open Marvin Mims Jr. on third and eight who ran it for 26-yards into field goal range.
A first down rumble by JK Dobbins and then a pass outside to Pat Bryant setup a first and goal opportunity for the Broncos offense. They would go nowhere from there and have to settle for a 27-yard field goal from Wil Lutz.
Broncos 13, Jets 11.
