The Denver Broncos have had a quick turnaround thanks to Sean Payton’s leadership as a head coach. In just his third year with the organization, Payton nearly led the club to a Super Bowl appearance last season. With the 2026-27 campaign quickly approaching, it appears the veteran coach is getting a new deal.

Reports indicate that Payton, who is 62 years old, is getting a new five-year contract from the Broncos, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The finances are currently unknown, but Payton is locked in through the 2030 season, along with general manager George Paton.

“ESPN sources: The Broncos and Sean Payton have reached agreement on a new five-year contract,” reported Schefter. “Payton has led the Broncos to the third-most wins in the NFL over the past two years, including an AFC Championship Game appearance last season. Now, Broncos owner Greg Penner has both his HC and GM George Paton under contract through the 2030 season, with stability across his football operations.”

The Broncos have steadily improved since trading for Sean Payton in 2023. Denver gave up a 2023 first-round pick and a 2024 second-round pick in exchange for Payton and a 2024 third-round pick from the New Orleans Saints. The franchise officially named him the new head coach in early February 2023.

After nearly reaching the Super Bowl last season, the Broncos hope to be just as competitive in the 2026-27 campaign. Sean Payton has won a ring in his career with the Saints, when he helped lead New Orleans to a 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Denver certainly hopes he can do the same for this franchise soon.
