Broncos could make a ‘holy crap’ trade today and are reportedly coveting another pass catcher
Mile High Report Mile High Report

The NFL trade deadline is today, and rumors are starting to heat up about our Denver Broncos. We have heard multiple rumors about them being in the wide receiver and/or tight end market already, and now with just hours before the deadline, we have another.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the league believes the Denver Broncos do indeed covet another pass catcher, and Sean Payton’s aggressive history makes them a team to watch.

You could make a case either way here. They are 7-2, have been winning with what they have, and should keep the picks and let the young guys continue to develop. However, you could also make the case that the Broncos lack an established number two and would be in trouble if Courtland Sutton were ever to miss an extended period of time.

While I am writing this, we have another report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who tweeted out that the Seahawks and Broncos are two teams he could see making “holy crap” trades today.

These are all rumors/reports at this moment, and it does not guarantee that anything will happen, but it does sound like the Broncos are exploring a potential big-time trade before the deadline. If we go off these two reports/rumors, you can probably narrow down the candidates to Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, Saints wide receiver Chris Olave, and maybe Browns tight end David Njoku.

The Dolphins fired their GM and have been selling off pieces. Explosive wide receiver Jaylen Waddle is a player they are reportedly listening to offers for, but they would need to be “blown away” to get a deal done. He would fit the “holy crap” category and would cost the Broncos some premium draft picks and potentially their first round pick. This is all speculation on my part, but based on who is reportedly available and the Broncos’ reportedly targeting pass catchers, he makes the most sense. I would be very surprised, but that is why it would be a ‘Holy Crap” trade.

As for Olave, the Saints seem more likely than not to keep him based on reports, but he would be another surprising “Holy Crap” trade. There are the obvious coaching connections, and he would slide in as a solid number two opposite of Courtland Sutton.

I am not sure Njoku fits as a “Holy Crap” type trade at this stage of his career, but the Broncos have reportedly been in the tight end market, and he appears to be the biggest name available. It is unclear if the Browns will move him, and I am simply speculating here, but he would be a surprising addition for the Broncos.

With the Broncos at 7-2, a favorable upcoming schedule, a two-game lead over the Chiefs, and leading the AFC West, they could make a big “all-in” trade. Future success is not guaranteed (look at Washington), and Sean Payton has historically been very aggressive in these situations. If there is a player out there...
