Broncos can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Packers
Mile High Report Mile High Report

We have our first Denver Broncos playoff berth clinching scenario of the season, and it is pretty straightforward. All the Broncos have to do is defeat the Packers this Sunday, and they will officially clinch a postseason berth for the second straight season.

The Denver Broncos sit at 11-2 on the year, have won 10 straight games, and are currently the number one seed in the AFC and simply need to win to be the first team in the AFC to clinch a postseason berth.

In total, there are six ways the Broncos can clinch a postseason berth this Sunday, but most include the Broncos and multiple other teams ending their game with a tie. That is a highly unlikely scenario, but there is another way the Broncos can clinch a postseason berth, no matter if they win or lose this Sunday. If both the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans lose, the Broncos are in.

The Colts, who lost Daniel Jones for the year with an Achilles injury, will head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a game that most everyone anticipates that they will lose. As for the Texans, they will host a struggling Cardinals team in a game they will likely be heavy favorites in. The Broncos will need both of these teams to lose if they want to clinch a postseason berth, no matter the outcome of their game vs. the Packers.

Here are all six scenarios in which the Denver Broncos can clinch a postseason berth this Sunday.

    1. DEN win
    1. DEN tie + JAX loss
    1. DEN tie + LAC loss
    1. DEN tie + IND loss/tie
    1. DEN tie + HOU loss/tie
    1. IND loss/tie + HOU loss/tie (both can’t tie)

The easiest and simplest way in is to win, and that is exactly what Head Coach Sean Payton will be preaching to the team this week. They do not want the outcomes of two other games to dictate how they get in. They want to get in on their own terms, and once again, all it takes is the Broncos to win their 11th straight game, improve to 12-2 on the year, and inch closer to that number one seed in the AFC.

Next up for the Broncos are the AFC West and the number one seed clinching scenarios. Take care of business this Sunday, and we can start looking at those scenarios in the coming weeks.
