The Denver Broncos advanced to the AFC Championship Game last season after Bo Nix led a game-winning drive in overtime in the Divisional Round. Unbeknownst to Denver fans at the time, though, the quarterback broke his ankle on the third-to-last play of the game. The injury forced Nix out of action in the AFC Championship and all but eliminated Denver’s chances of making it to the Super Bowl.
Nix underwent surgery not long after suffering the injury, and a cleanup procedure came to follow a few months later in April. Now, the Broncos have already begun Organized Team Activities. Mike Klis reported that Nix is back with the team and in Broncos gear, but he isn’t yet participating in practice as he continues to rehab the offseason surgery.
Andrew Mason added that Nix has been throwing and expects to have “more of a role” by minicamp, according to head coach Sean Payton. Nix seems to be on track to be fully cleared and ready to contribute sooner rather than later. As of now, though, Jarrett Stidham is taking QB1 reps for Denver.
Stidham was thrust into action during the stormy AFC Championship Game that Nix was forced to miss, and he unfortunately left a lot to be desired. The circumstances were far from ideal, though, and many consider Stidham to be one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league.
Denver’s offense added Jaylen Waddle into the fold in one of the biggest blockbusters of the offseason. He will bring even more firepower to a team that is ready to contend for Super Bowl 61.
