The Indianapolis Colts opened up the second quarter on the Denver Broncos one yard line. Denver’s defense stuffed them twice, but an offsides penalty on the Broncos gave the life the Colts needed for Daniel Jones to punch it in on a quarterback sneak to help Indianapolis to retake the lead.

Needing a drive to respond, the Broncos offense didn’t get off to a great start with the Colts defense blowing up a screen from Bo Nix to Troy Franklin for a loss of four yards. However, on the next play things broke down and Nix buying some time found Troy Franklin deep for a 42-yard gain into field goal range.

Two plays later and another first down, Nix then hit Franklin on a slant inside the 10 yard line who ran all the way down to the two. From there, they tried to run Dobbins who gained nothing. So Nix went back to the Troy Franklin well for a three yard touchdown pass and retook the lead.

The Colts streak of scoring drives finally ended at midfield on their next possession. They’d go for it on fourth and one, but the Broncos defense swarmed to stuff the inside run to give the Broncos the ball.

A jet sweep to Franklin immediately picked up 12 for the Broncos on the next play. Nix would complete a short pass for four yards. After RJ Garvey got stuffed on second down, the Broncos needed to convert a third and six. Pay Bryant caught a quick slant, but seemed to be stopped just short of the first down marker. A generous spot, however, gave them the first down.

The Colts would challenge the call, but the refs said the call stood. It really looked short to me and I wanted it to be a first down, so we take those all day long.

The drive looked like it would stall from there, but a pass interference call on Courtland Sutton put the Broncos ball into the red zone. After an unsportsmanlike penalty, the Broncos were at a first and goal from the 10. JK Dobbins gained four yards on first down, then Nix would roll out and try to fit one into Lucas Krull in the end zone. Another penalty, this time defensive holding, put the Broncos even closer to the end zone.

From the three yard line, Nix tried to throw one up to Sutton but he was well-covered. On second down, Nix again tried to go to Sutton in the end zone and yet another penalty was called on the Colts defense to put the Broncos down to a first and goal from the one. They would try to run it up the gut on first and went nowhere, then on second down, Nix hit Adam Trautman in the back of the end zone for the touchdown.
