Well, you can’t blame that one on the referees.

It’s hard not to be disgusted after the Broncos losing performance on Sunday in Los Angeles against the Chargers. As the Broncos approach the quarter-mark of the season, its become painfully clear that they are softer than a pillow at a cheap Colfax motel.

Here is a team with all the talent, leadership, and plenty of ingredients that should produce a winning football team and yet they are doing just enough to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Soft.

They don’t want it bad enough.

Take your pick, there’s plenty to be irritated by. The boy wunderkind who was supposed to turn the corner at quarterback – the one that said the game has slowed down for him – managed a 38.5 QBR and a rating of 87.6, going 14/25 for a measly 153-yards and a touchdown. Want to take penalties? How about being flagged 13 times, 10 accepted for 90-yards? Although, it needs to be stated that these numbers don’t adequately capture how clutch these penalties were in order to lose the game. Or, was it the defense that caved on those final minutes to allow the Chargers to not only tie the game, but then allow Los Angeles to get into position to kick the game winner?

Three games in, it’s become startlingly clear that the Broncos seem happy to just be there. They’ve collected their free jerseys, stuffed their pockets with gratis Uncrustibles, played a little Playstation and are ready to call it a day. Clock in and clock out, win or lose, it doesn’t matter. Penalties are fine. The preseason darlings have morphed into entitled debutantes that can’t be bothered with doing the small things to close out games. Soft.

Remember, these were the “easy” games on the schedule. Denver could very well be 3-0 at this point in the season (which would have put them in 1st place in the AFC West), but they just didn’t seem to care enough to get it done. If you want 56-minutes of okay-ish football followed by a few minutes of the worst football you’ve seen, have I got a fun team for you! Soft.

Blowing back-to-back games in the manner they did should be a wakeup call to most teams. Will it be for the Broncos?

Can someone get a message to the Broncos that it’s time to sack up and play some big boy football?

Disgustingly soft.
