Rumors are swirling that the Broncos could signing DE Zach Allen to a much deserved contract soon.
Early this morning, a rumor popped up on Twitter/X that the Broncos are closing in on an extension with DE Zach Allen. While this account has a fairly reliable track record, it still wasn’t a sufficiently reliable source to rely on and required some confirmation.
Well, we got it.
KOA’s Benjamin Allbright referenced the tweet in question and said, “they’re not done, but they’re getting closer”.
The team already locked up veteran wide receiver Courtland Sutton earlier in the week and appears to have turned their sights to Allen. He is entering the final year of his deal with the Broncos and is due a much-deserved contract extension from the team. Giving an extension to Allen always seemed like a lock to me, considering how important he is to the defense and team, so it’s good to see that they’re at least making progress on an extension.
Since joining the Broncos, Allen has turned into one of the better defensive linemen in the entire NFL and was a workhorse for the team last season. He played nearly 90% of the Broncos' defensive snaps last season and was a monster in the run game, and was one of their key pass rushers on a defense that led the NFL in sacks.
Allen is a player who has helped change the outlook and culture of the team and is someone you do not let walk out the door. He is that important to the team on and off the field and deserves a bit of a raise moving forward.
With Sutton locked up and Allen getting closer to an extension, that leaves edge rusher Nik Bonitto, defensive linemen John Franklin-Myers, and run stuffer/trash talker Malcolm Roach as their pending free agents this upcoming offseason. Bonitto has spoken positively about his contract talks and, at the very least, is a Franchise Tag candidate. Veteran John Franklin-Myers was excellent for the Broncos last season, but he kinda seems like the odd man out here. As for Malcolm Roach, with how important he is as a run defender, I think they will try to work something out to keep him with the team moving forward.
Hopefully, the Broncos and Allen can continue making progress on a potential deal and can sign him to a much-deserved contract extension sooner rather than later.
