Let’s break down the snap counts for the Denver Broncos 20-12 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 1. The offense did not present much in the way of surprises in terms of snap counts for game 1.
All five starting offensive linemen played the whole game on offense as did Bo Nix. We used Alex Palczewski on ten offensive snaps as the 6th offensive lineman.
JK Dobbins got the majority of the RB snaps with 40, while RJ Harvey made the most of his 22. Tyler Badie had 14 as the 3rd down back.
Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims were WR1, WR2 and WR3 with 72, 45 and 40 snaps. Trent Sherfield got 26 (mild surprise) and Pat Bryant only got 4.
The TEs saw Evan Engram get only 26 (injury) with Adam Trautman getting 44 and Lucas Krull 22.
Fullback Adam Prentice played 15 offensive snaps.
The defense didn’t really have many surprises either. The defense was only on the field for 57 snaps.
Four defenders played every snap Talanoa Hufanga, Riley Moss, Patrick Surtain II, and Alex Singleton.
At the other safety Brandon Jones played all but two d. snaps. The other two CBs who played, Ja’Quan McMillian and Jahdae Barron played 31 and 21 snaps.
The other ILB, Justin Strnad, played 38 snaps.
For the IDL, Zach Allen, John-Franklin-Myers, Eyioma Uwazurike and Jordan Jackson played 46, 36, 15 and 11 snaps respectively.
At the OLB spots Jonathan Cooper, Nik Bonitto, Jonah Eliss and Dondrea Tillman played 37, 35, 23 and 19 snaps. I like that we are keeping our edge guys fresh, particularly in the first game of the season.
I would have liked to see Zach Allen get a little more rest, but I can’t argue with the results when the defense held the Titans to 133 total yards (and -1 net yard in the second half).
Defenders who were active but did not play on defense were JL Skinner, Devon Key, P.J. Locke, Karene Reid, Kris Abrams-Draine, and Levelle Bailey.
The three offensive players who were active but did not play on offense were Matt Peart, Alex Forsyth and Jarrett Stidham.
