PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones had a Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands that he would like to forget. According to Pro Football Focus, Jones allowed three sacks and four pressures against the New York Jets.
“You know, certainly it could be better, but, certainly, all of our performances can be better,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said when asked about Jones’ performance on Sunday. “As I mentioned, our quarterback got hit too much and he was a component of that.”
Jones knows he has to be better.
“I’ve got to be better. I’ve just got to continue to focus. I can’t put that on tape,” Jones said on Wednesday. “I know that. Everybody knows that.”
When asked what he’s working on hardest to correct, Jones said “everything.”
Jones felt like he was well-prepared for Sunday’s game. He can’t quite put his finger on what went wrong.
“I felt like I prepared the right way. My mind was in it the whole time. Just a bad game, honestly. Just have to grow from there,” Jones said.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is confident that Jones will bounce back this week against the Seattle Seahawks.
“I really like Brod. I’ve gotten to know him during training camp. I like what he’s about. I like his attitude. He’s a genuinely positive guy. I’ve got a lot of confidence in him watching my back,” Rodgers said.
Rodgers took the brunt of the blame for how many times he ended up on the MetLife Stadium turf.
“I don’t think I was moving that well,” Rodgers said. “I think I ran, kind of, into at least one or two sacks. So I’ve gotta do a better job of using my legs. I might be old, but I still feel like I can move around pretty good and I wasn’t moving the way I usually like to move.
“I thought the protection was pretty good for most of the game. There’s a couple fundamental things to clean up. Pat [Meyer]’s gonna take care of those guys. I’ve just gotta get the ball out.”
