Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave left tackle Broderick Jones an ear full for tackling him during a touchdown celebration following Pat Freiermuith’s 68-yard catch-and-run score against the Cincinnati Bengals in Thursday night’s 33-31 loss.
Rodgers’ strike to Freiermuth gave the Steelers a 31-30 lead with 2:21 remaining in the game. After the touchdown, Rodgers did his vintage arm pump celebration. Jones then came from behind and foolishly tackled Rodgers.
To say the least, the 41-year-old quarterback wasn’t happy and scolded Jones for it. He even shoved the third-year tackle. Rodgers appeared fine, but that could have been a drastic situation. Rodgers is already the oldest player in the NFL, he doesn’t need unnecessary hits from his own teammate.
On Monday, Jones responded to the moment that went viral.
“We’re still joking about it,” Jones said. “Yeah, he was a little mad but it’s all right. You know, it’s football. It gets intense. It’s still no love lost. It’s just the energy that he brings and that I bring. He told me don’t lose the fire and I told him the same. We shall see on Sunday after he throws another touchdown, I might tackle him again.”
Jones, of course, was just joking on that final part.
Nevertheless, it’s a moment that everyone can laugh about since no one was injured.
“I don’t want to put him on blast, but the way Broderick described it on the field versus what we seen on the video is so funny,” Steelers right tackle Troy Fautanu said.
Jones having an energetic personality is just who he is.
“You can’t blame the guy,” Fautanu said. “It’s high emotions. In the heat of the moment, Muth made a play and scored a touchdown. Can’t get mad at the guy.”

On Thursday night, former Steelers offensive lineman Trai Essex blasted Jones for his lack of awareness.
“I’ve literally have never seen this shit before. Obviously it wasn’t intentional by 77 but it was just dumb and a lack of awareness,” Essex wrote on X.
After getting scolded by Rodgers, I’m sure the third-year offensive tackle out of Georgia will be more aware and careful during touchdown celebrations.
