Broderick Jones told reporters on Friday is weight loss was intentional and he is prepared to put more weight on if needed.

Earlier this offseason, Pittsburgh Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones told reporters he had slimmed down. It has also become apparent to those who have watched him closely. Jones’ weight transformation has been very noticeable as he spoke to reporters on Friday.

“I’m just trying to maintain … I did want to lose a little weight,” Jones told reporters. “It’s always easier to put on weight than lose weight.”

Jones, back in May, told reporters he had decreased his weight to 305 to 310 pounds. In 2024, he told reporters he was playing between 325 and 330 pounds.

For Jones at offensive tackle, a range of 305 to 310 is excellent. Ideally, this allows for quicker movement, higher stamina, and flexibility. However, some are skeptical of his reported weight.

Steelers correspondent for the Pat McAfee show reported Jones may be “a bit undersized.” He believed Jones is closer to 285 than to the reported 305 figure.

For Jones, though, this could be by design. He didn’t seem worried about needing to put on more weight, if needed.

“I just wanted to come in on the smaller side, you know? If I have to put more weight on, I can. I’ve got time to do that.” Jones said.

Jones was also asked if the weight transformation was urged by anyone, including himself. “I want my body to be in the best shape as possible.” Jones answered regarding the motivation to slim down.

There’s no doubt Jones is doing everything he can to be in the best position to be the Steelers’ future left tackle. It will come down to execution and growth as he works through preseason.
