Brock Purdy just became one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, and he already knows exactly how he’s going to enjoy a slice of that well-earned payday. After signing a massive five-year, $265 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers, the 24-year-old quarterback stays true to his roots and hobbies.

At a press conference following the official signing of his new deal, Purdy didn’t talk about sports cars or luxury mansions. Instead, he grinned and revealed a much more personal goal.

“I was telling my wife—and she’s annoyed with me—but I’d like to get a bass boat someday, so that’ll be my first big purchase,” he said.

It’s a classic Purdy answer, grounded and genuine, and it says a lot about the quarterback who once shared an apartment and drove a Toyota Sequoia.

From Mr. Irrelevant To Franchise Leader

Just three years ago, Purdy entered the NFL as the 262nd overall pick in the 2022 draft, earning the infamous title of “Mr. Irrelevant.” At the time, few expected him to take a snap in a regular season game. But that changed quickly when injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced the rookie into action.

Thrown into the fire, Purdy didn’t flinch. He guided the 49ers all the way to the NFC Championship in his first season before suffering an elbow injury that ended the team’s playoff hopes. Still, his poise and performance left no doubt in San Francisco’s front office. The team went all-in, and it paid off.

Until now, Purdy had been playing on a rookie deal that paid him under $1 million per season. He lived modestly, even sharing a home with a roommate until he married in 2024. Now, with $181 million guaranteed and job security through 2029, he can afford more than a few upgrades.

A top-of-the-line bass boat won’t make a dent in that kind of contract, but it fits Purdy’s personality. Fishing remains one of his favorite off-field pastimes, and this purchase reflects a player who hasn’t lost touch with what brings him joy.

While some quarterbacks celebrate new contracts with lavish purchases, Brock Purdy’s choice says more than a flashy car ever could. He’s still that grounded guy who just happens to lead one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, and now he’ll be doing it with a rod and reel on standby.
