Brock feels ‘a lot better’; Mac Jones will be available this Sunday

San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy was asked how the practice week has gone for him, having to deal with a toe injury: “It’s been good. Really like where I’m at with the progress. Healing up. Feeling better and dropping back, throwing. I like where I’m at. It’s been good.”

Purdy wouldn’t confirm whether he’s playing this week against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He smirked and responded, “We’ll see, feeling a lot better.” Brock believes the decision to play this week will mirror last week’s. The team and Purdy will take it day by day and see how he progresses.

Purdy doubled down by saying that his toe feels better after two and a half weeks of not playing. When asked whether he’s been able to do enough during the week of practice to get prepared for Sunday, Brock said:

Purdy said he’s not going to play if he’s not feeling good. He went third person on the media, saying, “If I step onto the field playing quarterback, I’m going to play like Brock Purdy has always played quarterback.”

The last thing Purdy wants to do is go out there and second-guess himself about how his toe feels. He’s not going to put himself or the team in jeopardy by playing when he’s less than 100 percent, potentially re-aggravating his toe injury.

Whether Purdy suits up or not, Mac Jones confirmed with reporters that he’ll be available for Sunday’s game:

Definitely. Just dropping back and throwing and feeling good about playing the position of quarterback. For me, it’s still a day by day thing, going up to game time, see how I feel. But, I really do think that it’s been good progress and good work. I do just feel better overall, with my body, mentally, attacking this game plan, and being ready, if I’m able to go.

“Every week, people deal with stuff. Each day, you just assess where you’re at. Having played five years in the NFL, I kind of know where I need to be at. I’m definitely happy with my progress, and the medical staff and everybody.” Jones said he’s doing “a lot” in practice, from going through warmups to hitting all of the throws. Whether it’s as a backup or a starter, Jones said, “I’ll be ready to play.”

The roster moves the team makes on Saturday, and whether Adrian Martinez is on the active roster, will tell us what we need to know. Both players figure to be questionable on the final injury report.
