A familiar voice will be helping call the Pittsburgh Steelers’ regular-season opener against the New York Jets on Sunday. T.J. Watt’s older brother, J.J. Watt, will be in the CBS broadcast booth alongside play-by-play man Ian Eagle, while Evan Washburn reports from the sideline.
The elder Watt joined CBS’ No. 2 announcing team this summer, replacing longtime Madden announcing voice Charles Davis, who is now broadcasting games with Andrew Catalon, Jason McCourty and AJ Ross. J.J. Watt spent time in The NFL Today studio last season.
J.J. Watt played a dozen seasons in the NFL, spending the bulk of his odyssey with the Houston Texans, for whom he is the franchise’s all-time sacks leader. He led the league in sacks in 2012 and 2015, earned three Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year awards and five first-team AP All-Pro nods.
T.J. Watt became the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history by signing a three-year, $123 million contract extension in July. Former Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons surpassed him for that title after being traded to the Green Bay Packers last week.
T.J. Watt has led the NFL in sacks three times and is a four-time first-team AP All-Pro. He sits at 108 career sacks, 6.5 shy of his older sibling’s career total. T.J. Watt finished last season with 11.5 sacks and a league-high six forced fumbles.
CBS’ No. 1 announcing team of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo and Tracy Wolfson will be in Green Bay to cover Parsons’ Packers debut against the Detroit Lions.
