Brian Callahan Will Get Himself Fired With Moronic Game Management As Boos Rain Down In Tennessee

Brian Callahan will not get another year as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans if current trends continue. Boos rained down at Nissan Stadium after a disastrous display of clock management on Sunday.

To make matters worse, the subsequent field goal attempt was blocked.

It was a truly embarrassing sequence of events for one of the worst teams in the NFL this season. Nothing seems to get any better.

The Tennessee Titans proved incompetent.

The specific sequence of events to which I am referring took place before halftime. Tennessee moved 19 yards on five-straight handoffs to Tony Pollard to set up 4th-and-1 at the Indianapolis 39-yard-line.

The Colts called a timeout to stop the clock with 42 second remaining in the second quarter. The Titans called a second timeout on top of the first timeout to get its special teams unit in order.

That in itself is unacceptable. There should be no issues getting set for a field goal out of a timeout.

This is something teams go over during practice. It is a routine sequence.

Fortunately, the initial game management blunder did not cause any problems. It allowed the kicking team even more time to line up for the field goal. You can’t take timeouts with you. Oh well.

Unfortunately, the initial game management blunder was not the only game management blunder. Tennessee took a delay of game penalty out of the second timeout to push the kick back by five yards.

And then it was blocked.
