Brian Callahan lied; Titans lose again

After the success the Tennessee Titans had in the fourth quarter last week running the no-huddle, Brian Callahan said this week they would run more tempo on offense against the Las Vegas Raiders. Well, that didn’t happen until the Titans were down by three scores late in the fourth quarter. The Titans ran three no-huddle plays in the first three quarters. I doubt Callahan will be fired this week, but there is no reason he shouldn’t be.

There really isn’t much to say about this game that hasn’t been said already. The playcalling was bad. The Titans ran the ball up the middle on the first three plays of the game. If they spent all week looking at a Raiders’ defense that was 27th against the pass and decided that the first three plays on the script should be runs up the middle, there is no reason for them to still be employed.

The offensive line, which had looked better the last couple of weeks and was supposed to get a boost with JC Latham returning, was terrible. Cam Ward was sacked six times and was running for his life the entire day.

The defense played pretty well most of the day, but it is impossible for them to hold up when they are on the field the entire day. Jeffery Simmons was out there making plays all over the field again. The Titans would be doing him a favor if they decide to move him before the NFL trade deadline.

What else is there to say? We are on a slow march to Callahan’s inevitable firing. It should happen this week, but it probably won’t. Mike Vrabel comes to town on Sunday. If the New England Patriots rout the Titans, which they will, that might just be enough for Amy Adams-Strunk to pull the trigger.
