Brian Answers: Projecting key positions on defense

Hello CSR! Welcome to Brian Answers, part two of your weekly Panthers fan mailbag for everyone! We got the Panthers first preseason action ready to rock shortly, but there’s still plenty of discussion to be had. And we’ll have more questions next week, but that’s why I do this, EVERY SINGLE WEEK! Let’s dive in, and hold your questions for next week’s edition of our mailbag!

DannyLimes: how many times are we going to sack sanders on Friday?

I think I’d be happy with two sacks, though its hard to project since we don’t know how long Sanders is going to play. It seems like he’ll get a decent amount of snaps since the Browns have so many QBs dealing with injuries, which ended up with them signing Tyler Huntley as their 6th QB on the roster as of now.

SwampPanther: What players, one rookie and one vet, are you most looking forward to watching play Friday?

I’d say I’m most looking forward to seeing RB Trevor Etienne play. I’m sure the popular pick is WR Jimmy Horn Jr, and I tend to agree, but in the preseason the 3rd stringers tend to lean heavily on the run, and I think that’s where both of those guys see time. Both are viable candidates, but I think we’ll get to see a little more of Etienne this week. As far as veterans go, I’d say Hunter Renfrow if he’s healthy. I think he’ll get some snaps with the 2nd team offense and be the safety blanket for whoever they put in at QB.

@WTMealey: Do you watch 100% of all three preseason games?

I typically do watch the whole preseason game, or at least try to. Typically I’m on Twitter/X and Facebook covering the game for the other lost souls who feel the need to watch the entirety of the preseason. If I weren’t a part of the CSR staff, I’d probably only watch about half of most preseason games. But I’m here to entertain, much like I (hopefully) do with this column every week!

KeepPounding88: What do you think our preseason record will be?

Let’s go with 1-2. It sounds like the Browns really aren’t playing a ton of starters this week, so I think if the Panthers have some solid drives with their first teams on Friday, they’ll probably taper off and allow the guys fighting for 53 man spots a lot more time in the next two. But, as you know, preseason record doesn’t really matter. Our beloved 2010 Panthers went 4-0 in the preseason, and won half that many games in the 16 game regular season.

schrodingersblackcat: What do you expect from Trevin Wallace’s career as a Panther?

Its hard to say at this point, he’s kind of been thrown into an uncharacteristic situation for a Panthers mid-round draft pick at linebacker. In his rookie season, he got thrown right into the fire as Shaq Thompson got knocked out for the season and Josey Jewell battled injuries...
