The Jacksonville Jaguars locked in key weapon Brenton Strange to a $48 million extension Wednesday. This move ensures head coach Liam Coen and the franchise won’t lose him to NFL Free Agency anytime soon. But the signing also sparked an explosive prediction from Bucky Brooks.
The longtime NFL Network analyst dropped a glowing take on the Strange decision. Signaling that the best is still yet to come for the ex-Penn State star.
“Big time playmaker for the Jaguars who should see his numbers explode,” Brooks posted on the social media website X, formerly Twitter. “Very talented mismatch weapon who could change how opponents defend the Jags’ passing game.”
Strange agreed to a three-year extension that now pays him up to $48 million, plus ensuring he lands $25 million guaranteed. The past Nittany Lions great has ascended since his NFL arrival of 2023.
Strange is fresh off catching 46 passes for 540 yards and scored three touchdowns for the AFC South champs. Coen discovered new ways to attack the intermediate side of the field with the 6-foot-4 tight end. Strange helped hand quarterback Trevor Lawrence a new security blanket amid his weapons in Duval County.
Strange is now coming off back-to-back 40-reception seasons with the Jags. But Coen unlocked him more, turning to Strange as a multi-dimensional chess piece. He flexed Strange out to create scenarios where Strange can attack in space and turn to his physicality. Coen trusted his run blocking too in setting the edges. The soon-to-be second season head coach aligned Strange in multiple ways regardless of the slot or as a traditional in-line tight end.
