With the NFL deciding not to hold a supplementary draft, quarterback Brendan Sorsby is currently without a football home for the 2026 season. He won’t be able to go up north to get on the gridiron though.

The Canadian Football League have decided not to allow Sorsby to sign a contract, via TSN broadcaster. Farhan Lalji Ultimately, the quarterback’s gambling past is why the CFL shut him out.

“Upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring fair competition are paramount to the CFL,” the league’s statement read. “The allegations involving Brendan Sorsby are serious and concerning. At this time, the CFL will not register a contract for him, and no team will be permitted to add him to its negotiation list.”

Between the NCAA, NFL and now CFL not accepting Sorsby, there aren’t many more options if he still wants to play in 2026. He will be eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft, which is now his only shot entering the league. However, a year away from football may make teams already concerned about his status even more worried.

When he was on the field, Sorsby made a name for himself in his final year with Cincinnati. Over 12 games, he threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. He added another 580 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground, being named Second-team All-Big 12.

That production had teams around the NFL interested in Sorsby as their potential future at the position. But now, his place on the gridiron altogether has been questioned. What the quarterback does next is yet to be seen.
