The Pittsburgh Steelers already have a crowded quarterback room. Behind Aaron Rodgers, Mason Rudolph, Will Howard and Drew Allar are vying for roster spots. If Omar Khan and Mike McCarthy have an eye on the future, they might be interested in Monday night’s news regarding Brendan Sorsby.

According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Texas Tech signal-caller is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. Sorsby has been a hot topic in the college football world after his gambling issues surfaced.

“After legal wrangling about his NCAA eligibility, Sorsby — regarded as a first-round talent — now could be the highest-drafted supplemental pick in decades,” Pelissero wrote Monday night on X.

Sorsby had secured a temporary injunction restoring his NCAA eligibility earlier this month, but his plans have now taken a sharp turn.

In April, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer named the New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins as teams “that have kept the powder dry on really going all in on a quarterback in anticipation of next year.” Sorsby would be up for grabs in the NFL Supplemental Draft if he chooses.

“If you’re one of those teams, do you look at it and say, ‘Let’s just throw a second round pick at this?’” Breer said. “And then, you start to kind of dig deeper and it’s like if you’re Pittsburgh or Minnesota, where you say, ‘We’re gonna be at the bottom of the first round next year and we’re not gonna have a shot at a (Arch) Manning or a (Dante) Moore or a (CJ) Carr. Do we throw a first-round pick at this at the premise that it’s gonna be a low first-round pick?’

“I know that there are some NFL people that feel like, just from a physical ability standpoint, he has top of the first round talent.”
